Mt. Jefferson

Mount Jefferson has hidden

all this time because i was not

giving credit to its being

fifty some miles south of Hood

but yesterday, bright sunshine

was adding luster to its snow cap

and it rose up on my horizon

out of hiding, proud and glorious

with appreciation

snow-capped peaks on my skyline

after many days of layered gray

clouds obscuring – blessed sunshine

much appreciated

rain gauge

oregon rain creates bleak chill

even when spring should dwarf

all efforts to dampen sunshine

our spirits droop, even knowing

dust devils will soon dervish—

whirl all thought of grays

and stir our longing for mist

and the soothing respite of dew
