a little imagination does wonders
those of us who see people
animals and whole settings
portrayed by slowly moving clouds
are delighted by the “kissing camels”
especially as highlighted by rays
of a jovial Colorado sun
in the Garden of the Gods
of course, they are camels – we can see
their humps and elongated heads
stretched forward to show their affection
one for another
of course, cloud or rock camels would be
affectionate – our world is joyous
with unexpected moments of fun
wonder and awe
new challenge
wandering is beyond me now
simple freedom to explore
without ‘looking for’
but merely observing for the joy of immersing in the intricate interacting beauty
of natural surroundings
old age failings slow me
to study more closely immediate treasures in deeper focus
too wonderful for me
our minds conquer
time and distance
to maintain connection
to loved ones
in physics
there is an odd, instantaneous
connection between some far-
separated particles that makes
no more sense
and yet is true
each time we think we know
perhaps it would be better
to smile to ourselves
and admit we could still be awed
by reality
did the sun rise
An original poem by MaryJane Nordgren
today slipped into morning
without our golds and mauves
auburns and brilliant yellow-whites
strange to feel the daylight on my cheek
without having greeted the dawn
with due awe
