regaining with a wave

 precious to see, even across the street

little ones holding hands with parents

coming to or going from the street

market deeper down our town’s

main thoroughfare

we sit on walkers holding signs

at the corner of our senior

living facility, wishing

we could do more to restore respect

for persons in a society

we can no longer pretend

to have much say in

but some of the toddlers wave back

and our faith in humanity regains

something we were near to losing
